Omaha! It's a city Peyton Manning will "mention" at least a couple dozen times this Super Bowl Sunday. While he has visited Omaha, he's pretty busy this week so we've taken the liberty of creating the Peyton Manning Guide to Omaha for him:
Best place to drink your face off: Crescent Moon Ale House
Consistently ranked one of the best bars in America by multiple sources, the Crescent Moon Ale House is that perfect bar... Great atmosphere, massive draft selection, and great people.
Hippest area of town: Old Market District
The cobblestone streets and beautifully restored buildings combine with new shops, restaurants, and bars to make the Old Market District the cool, hip place to be in Omaha and we assume, the entire state of Nebraska.
Best spot for some down-home cookin': Big Mama's Kitchen
Big Mama wants every meal to feel like Sunday dinner. It may also give you a Monday coronary, but my goodness it looks flat out delicious. Add in the ambiance of the leopard print table cloths and you have a winning combination.
Must visit museum: Strategic Air Command Museum
With over 300,000 sq ft of hangar space filled with the coolest planes, helicopters, and even spacecraft, the Strategic Air Command Museum is a testament to American aviation advancement. Why go look at some art on a wall when you can sit in a fighter jet? Yeah, easy choice.
Best place to get a local brew: Upstream Brewing Co.
They make beer. They sell beer. They also sell food. Need we say more? The local brewery scene isn't quite as vibrant as other cities, so Upstream is the place to be for the best in local brew.
Coolest place to rest your head: Hotel Deco XV
It's actually the only cool place to rest your head in Omaha. Yeah, believe it or not Omaha doesn't have a real thriving trendy boutique hotel scene. The Hotel Deco XV, however, is pretty sweet. Stay there. Case closed.
Unexpected cultural cuisine: Bohemian Cafe
You might not expect Omaha, NE to have such an incredible little European restaurant, but the Bohemian Cafe has been serving up incredible American and European dishes since 1924. Not hungry? Just sit down at the Bohemian Girl bar for a drink. The authentic Czech servers' outfits and Czech decor just add that special something to the experience.
So now you know all the cool stuff in Omaha... You'll probably still never visit. Just keep listening to Counting Crows and watching Peyton Manning for your fix of Nebraska.
P.S. Due to overwhelming recommendations by readers like you the Henry Doorly Zoo should also be included on the Unofficial Peyton Manning Guide to Omaha. It sounds freakin' sweet.
