Get Turned On at the Antique Vibrator Museum

Turns out, Sears was selling your Grandmother more than just vacuum cleaners in the 60′s. The Antique Vibrator Museum in San Francisco has a massive collection of old timey “hand cranks” on display to remind us that our dirty old grandparents were as freaky as we are.

The Polk Street museum has a collection of you-know-whats dating all the way back to the 1800′s, ranging anywhere from the treacherous sounding steam-powered massager, to the first battery-operated model invented in 18(wait for it)69.

The Antique Vibrator Museum is the brainchild of founder Joani Blank, who decided to put her 20-years-worth of antique collecting on display in order to educate the general public about the cheeky history behind the vibrator. This has apparently touched a nerve (zing), prompting museum visitors to begin sending in their own oddly-acquired vibes from around the world.

Say what you will about the AVM, there’s no denying that it’s a fascinating collection that gives a whole new meaning to the “Softer Side of Sears”.
